Frequently asked questions

Update March 14th, 2022:

  • From 15 March, season ticket holders no longer need a time slot to visit our zoo.
  • Are you visiting us with an introduction/day ticket? Then book one of the three time slots. You can arrive within these times and of course stay in Blijdorp until closing time.
  • As of 25 February, the corona measures are no longer compulsory (corona access card, mouth mask, 1.5m distance).

See you in our zoo.

Opening hours

Our zoo is open daily from 09:00 – 17:00. You may stay in our zoo from the reserved entry time (time slot) until closing time. Exceptions to the opening hours Sinterklaas, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day open until 16:00 and New Year’s Day open from 10:00. From summer time (daylight changing time) we are open from 09:00 – 18:00.

No corona measures

As of 25 February, you do not need to show the corona access card any more. Also, the measures of keeping a distance of 1.5 metres and using mouth masks no longer apply. We follow the rules of the Dutch government. It is still wise for everyone to follow the basic advice that limits the spread of the corona virus.

Are you visiting us with an introduction/day ticket? Then book one of the three time slots. You can arrive within these times and of course stay in Blijdorp until closing time. You need to reserve a date and time. This is only possible via the website, not by phone or email.

You can enter through the main entrance on the Oceanium side and the entrance at the city side. At both entrances you can buy an entrance ticket.

Indoor locations open

The indoor locations (Oceanium, Taman Indah, Amazonica, Rivièrahal etc.) are open. The public laboratory and the deep sea exhibit are still closed.

Restaurants and terraces

Various catering (takeaway) locations are open. In the agenda of the free Blijdorp app you can see which catering locations are open.

I was unable to use my season ticket during the closure, how will I be compensated?

All season tickets that were valid on 15 December 2021 (the start of the last lockdown) will be extended by the number of days we were closed. This is 42 days. You can check the validity of your season ticket on My Subscription.

Can I bring my guests?

As a season ticket holder, you can bring along your guests during this first period. Buy an introduction ticket via the website or at the box office. You can bring a maximum of 4 guests a day with a 25% discount on the regular ticket price. Please note: You must also make an appointment to visit the box office. A time slot must also be reserved for the guests.

Can I buy a season ticket and then go straight in?

Yes, you can reserve a time slot at the box office (this is only possible at the main entrance on the Oceanium side).

I already bought a day ticket in 2021, what now?

Cancelling is not necessary. All tickets that were valid until 31 December 2021 and could not be used due to the lockdowns, will be extended by the number of days that Blijdorp was closed. This also applies to action tickets (Samen Sterk/Jumbo Dagje-Uit/Kruidvat) and lotteries. Tickets bought through one of our ticket partners are already provided with a time slot reservation. Please check your ticket or contact the point of sale for more information.

Discount pass (Rotterdampas, Ooievaarspas, Dordtpas) or coupon

At the Oceanium side (Blijdorplaan 8) a cash register is open for the following administrative actions:

  • Redeeming a discount coupon
  • Scanning discount passes (Rotterdampas, Ooievaarspas, Dordtpas).
  • Purchasing, extending or changing a season ticket.
  • Creating a pass.

I bought a ticket via an online booking site for a visit in the period that Blijdorp was temporarily closed. What do I do now?

For questions regarding rebooking or cancelling tickets from resellers, please contact the organisation where you bought the ticket directly.

Payment: only with debit or credit card

Please note that in the entire garden, you can only pay with pin.

There is enough space in both the zoo and the car park to keep your distance. The regular parking rates apply: €9.50 and €6 for season ticket holders. Parking tickets are available in the ticket machines at the cash registers. Please note: not at the Zee van ZOOvenirs. More information about accessibility and parking options can be found here >

Map and route

The main route is two-way (indicated with white arrows), all sub-routes are one-way (yellow pawns). Running back is not allowed here. This is indicated by signs, arrows and on the map. The free Blijdorp app has been updated with the latest information, routes and walking directions. You can also pick up the updated map at the entrance. Or download the map here (PDF).

Souvenir shop

The Sea of ZOOvenirs and the Friends Bazaar are open during opening hours. Also take a look at our temporary webshop. Please note that you cannot buy parking tickets in the ZOOvenirs Sea.

Hire of strollers/ wheelchairs/ lockers

Prams can be hired at the entrance for €3.50 per day. Lockers are available with €2 coin at the Oceanium side (Rivierahal side with €0.50 coin). You can reserve a wheelchair prior to your visit by calling 0900-1857. A cash deposit of €50 is required. Wheelchairs are also disinfected before being handed out. More info for disabled visitors >

All toilets are open except at Toko Tjitjak and after the Shark Tunnel in the Oceanium. The toilets in between are closed off to provide sufficient space. We also clean the toilets more often. In the toilet units at Biotopia you will find the changing rooms.

Have your picture taken in front of the green screen in the photo booth of ZOOfoto next to the bison and prairie dogs. You can have your photo taken with Bokito and his family or with the lions. A great memory of your day in Blijdorp.

Outdoor playground Oewanja Lodge is open for children from 5 to 12 years. The indoor playground Biotopia is also open.

Is it allowed to bring a bicycle, scooter or similar?

No, it is not permitted to bring rolling vehicles (such as skates, bicycles, steps, skateboards, etc.) into our zoo. Approved medical devices and prams are allowed.

Smoking areas

The smoking areas are closed for safety reasons. It is not possible to keep enough distance. We ask you to smoke as little as possible in the Zoo and, if you do, to use the so-called ‘cigarette butts’ throughout the park.

It is still wise for everyone to follow the basic advice that limits the spread of the corona virus.

  • Do you have a fragile health condition or are you suffering from cold symptoms, such as a rhinitis, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, mild cough or fever? Postpone your visits and stay home. This also applies to the people you want to visit Blijdorp with.
  • Use paper tissues to blow your nose and throw them away afterwards.
  • Cough and sneeze into the inside of your elbow.
  • Do not shake hands and wash your hands regularly.
